President Xu Anlong of Hong Kong Advanced Research Institute of Sun Yat-sen University leads delegation to our hospital for academic exchange
To strengthen collaboration and drive medical research innovation between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, a delegation led by Professor Xu Anlong, President of the Hong Kong Advanced Research Institute of Sun Yat-sen University, visited our hospital on November 18. The delegation included Sun Qiang, Researcher at the Institute of Neuroscience, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Pan Dejing, Deputy Director of the CAM-SU Genomic Resource Center. The visit was held at the Hetao Biological Laboratory of The Eighth Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University. Participants included Chen Yanming, Dean of our hospital; Lin Weiting, Party Secretary; and Yuan Weixiang, Level-3 Administrative Officer of the Shenzhen Park Development Bureau for the Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone.

The Hetao Biomedical Laboratory is designed to be a world-class hub for scientific and technological innovation. It focuses on building platforms for new drug development, cell and stem cell technology, medical device research, and bioimaging analysis. These initiatives aim to facilitate the seamless exchange and sharing of innovation resources within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. During the visit, the delegation toured newly completed facilities, including principal investigator (PI) laboratories, public instrument rooms, shared laboratories, cell culture rooms, and animal research facilities.
Dean Chen Yanming warmly welcomed the delegation and emphasized that the visit represented a significant opportunity to deepen Shenzhen-Hong Kong cooperation and drive innovation in health and medical sciences. She reaffirmed the hospital's commitment to collaborating with various partners to establish high-standard laboratories, support regional medical research, and contribute to the Greater Bay Area’s biomedical innovation ecosystem.

Hong Kong Advanced Research Institute of Sun Yat-sen University is the first comprehensive research institution established by a mainland university in Hong Kong. Focused on interdisciplinary research in biomedical sciences, applied mathematics, and the humanities and social sciences, the institute attracts top global talent and supports cutting-edge technology development and commercialization. President Xu Anlong provided an overview of the institute’s history and highlighted its strengths in talent recruitment, research, and education. Yuan Weixiang introduced Futian District's policy advantages and encouraged all parties to collaborate in creating a new benchmark for Shenzhen-Hong Kong technological innovation and cooperation.
Following the discussions, the delegation visited the hospital's main campus for further exchange and collaboration.
