October 19, the Eighth Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University hosted the signing ceremony and scoliosis academic conference of Shenzhen’s Sanming Project, which encourages quality medical resources from home and abroad to establish a presence in the city. The department of Orthopedics officially signed Professor Raphael VIALLE from Paris Children's Hospital, the largest children's hospital in Europe, as a special expert. Vice President Li Jianlin and Professor Qiu Yong from Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital were in attendance.

Professor VIALLE is a famous pediatric orthopedic expert in Europe. He undertakes the teaching of pediatric orthopedics in numerous prestigious universities. He has worked in the International Association of Lumbar Research Association, French spine Association, French Association of Orthopaedic Association and other academic organizations. Professor?VIALLE has rich clinical experience in the conservative treatment, surgical treatment, postoperative rehabilitation exercise and complication management of various types of scoliosis in children. He has published more than 120 related papers and authored several academic monographs, contributing significantly to the field.

At the signing ceremony, Professor VIALLE expressed his great pleasure to be a special expert of the EAH-SYSU. He expressed hopes for deeper collaboration in the clinical diagnosis and treatment of children’s scoliosis, as well as in scientific research and talent development.

Vice President Li Jianlin warmly welcomed Professor VIALLE to the hospital and expressed his sincere gratitude for the support and assistance provided by Professor Qiu Yong from Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital. He pointed out that Professor VIALLE's joining of the Department of Orthopedics will greatly expand the international vision of the orthopedics department of EAH-SYSU, and help Shenzhen citizens enjoy the international medical services without leaving the city and enjoy world-class medical services.

Professor Wang Peng, the academic leader of spinal surgery department, introduced that in November 2019, EAH-SYSU, in collaboration with Professor Qiu Yong's team, established the spinal deformity Diagnosis and Treatment Center of EAH-SYSU. In 2023, through the key project of Sanming Project, the hospital continued to carry out broader and deeper cooperation with Professor Qiu Yong's team, gradually establishing a leading spinal deformity diagnosis and treatment center in China and the region. To date, it has provided outpatient diagnostic and treatment services for nearly thousands of patients with scoliosis and performed over 50 high-difficulty scoliosis surgeries.?

The introduction of Professor VIALLE is an important achievement of the Sanming Project of spinal surgery department. In the future, the Spine Surgery Department will continue to focus on scoliosis correction as a specialty, aiming to build a well-known spinal deformity diagnosis and treatment center in the South China.

Following the signing ceremony, Cai Zhaopeng, the director of the Talent Office and deputy director of the Spine Surgery Department, shared a case of complex scoliosis. Professor VIALLE engaged in an in-depth case discussion with the attendees.
