Since 2019, the hospital has initiated over 80 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. It has successively been approved for multiple major projects, including the National Key Research and Development Program of China, the Major Research Plan of National Natural Science Foundation of China, and international (regional) cooperation and exchange projects.

The hospital has established high-level research platforms, including Guangdong Provincial Clinical Research Center for Orthopedic Diseases, Guangdong Innovative Engineering and Technology Research Center for Assisted Circulation, Joint Laboratory of Nutrition and Metabolism and Critical Chronic Disease Prevention and Control at Sun Yat-sen University, Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Ankylosing Spondylitis, Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Precision Prevention and Control of Major Chronic Diseases and Metabolism Research.?

Additionally, the Laboratory in Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone (approximately 8000 m²) is scheduled to be put into use by 2025.
