Introduction
The Eighth Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University is located in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, within the central urban district of Futian, Shenzhen. As one of the affiliated hospitals of the prestigious Sun Yat-sen University, the hospital has attained National 3A Hospital Accreditation in 2021 and has progressively developed into an important base for medical service, education, and research in Shenzhen.
The hospital is composed of the headquarters and 32 community health service centers. With beautiful environment and comprehensive medical facilities, the hospital covers a construction area of 210,000 m2 and provides more than 1,200 parking spaces and over 1,300 beds. There are 50 clinical departments in the hospital, including two “Provincial Key Clinical Specialties”: orthopedics and cardiovascular medicine.
“2+3+1” Strategy
The hospital has implemented the “2+3+1” Strategy: establishing two major discipline clusters, namely the trauma-orthopedic disease and the cardiac-metabolic disease; constructing three supporting platforms, namely Big Data Center, Precision Medicine Center, and Translational Research Center; and establishing a 5G+AI chronic disease management demonstration area, leveraging a network of 32 community health service centers.
Scientific Research
Since 2017, the hospital has initiated 98 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. It has successively been approved for multiple major projects, including the National Key Research and Development Program of China, the Major Research Plan of National Natural Science Foundation of China, and international (regional) cooperation and exchange projects.
The hospital has established high-level research platforms, including Guangdong Provincial Clinical Research Center for Orthopedic Diseases, Guangdong Innovative Engineering and Technology Research Center for Assisted Circulation, Joint Laboratory of Nutrition and Metabolism and Critical Chronic Disease Prevention and Control at Sun Yat-sen University, Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Ankylosing Spondylitis, Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Precision Prevention and Control of Major Chronic Diseases and Metabolism Research.?
Additionally, the Laboratory in Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone (approximately 8000 m2) is scheduled to be put into use by 2025.
Medical Education
As one of the medical schools of Sun Yat-sen University, the hospital undertakes clinical teaching tasks, post-graduate education and continuing education. With 21 doctoral programs, 26 master’s degree programs, 32 doctoral supervisors, 87 supervisors for master candidate, and more than 100 high-level talents introduced, the hospital is dedicated to cultivating high-quality medical professionals in China.
